Local Govt. has fallen apart without polls - Vasudeva

Leader of the Democratic Left Front, Vasudeva Nanayakkara states that there is a limit to enduring the Government’s postponement of the Local Government polls by citing numerous reasons.

He stated this upon attending a media briefing of the Democratic Left Front today (17).

Vasudeva Nanayakkara also said that both he and the Joint Opposition had boycotted a meeting led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Premier’s official residence, as the discussion was held for the purpose of postponing the LG polls.

The Parliamentarian stated that the Election Office would become a museum before long, and added that the Local Government had fallen apart owing to the postponing of elections.

He also stated that significant pressure would be exerted on the Government in near future.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the Socialist People’s Front, Raja Kollure, who also attending the media briefing, stated that the Government was attempting to seek control over the media by means of a bill.

Through this bill, he said, the Government will create media that will bend to their will.
